Company muster rolls, 1862-1865.

ArchivalResource

Company muster rolls, 1862-1865.

Original company muster rolls prepared by company commanders and filed with the Adjutant General include each soldier's name; rank; age; height; colors of eyes, hair and complexion; birthplace; residence; maritial status; occupation; enrollment and muster in dates and places; mustering officer; dated remarks on promotion, resignation, discharge, transfer, desertion, or death; and federal mustering officer name. Those companies mustered into federal service prior to January 1, 1862 appear to have compiled their rolls in the field, while those companies mustered after this date filled out their rolls at their muster into service. Some companies seem to have prepared rolls at various times after their initial strength report. Also included are muster rolls of Illinois citizens enrolled in Missouri units.
