Special orders, 1861-1905.

Special orders, usually issued by the Adjutant General to military commanders, concern troop movement and organization; officer election, appointment, and promotion; duty assignments; and troop recruitment. Correspondence with officers concerning execution of orders is included. Each special order is numbered and gives the issuance date and name, rank, and location of the officer to whom the order was sent.
