Coal Employment Project records, 1977-1991.

Records documenting the daily operations of the Coal Employment Project (CEP) organization and also the extensive activities it undertook in support of women miners. Included are financial ledgers and balance sheets; grant proposals; personnel leave and hiring records; correspondence; agenda and programs for the CEP national conferences of women miners; sound recordings (audio cassettes and sound tape reels) and videorecordings (VHS, 3/4 in. U-matic, and reel-to-reel video tapes) concerning employment of women miners; handbooks, research papers, articles and newclippings on women in mining and related subjects; and photographic prints and negatives. Women in mining and numerous issues related to women miners are covered in the records; also, subject files on strikes, lawsuits, and organizations including the United Mine Workers of America, the Rural Coalition, Southern Appalachian Leadership Training, and Coalition of Labor Union Women. Significant amounts of information about CEP staff members and regional coal mining women's support groups are also included.
