Francis Kinloch Huger was born in Charleston, South Carolina, in September, 1773, and died there in 1855. At the age of eight, he was sent to study in England, remaining abroad until he had finished his education and medical studies. He continued his medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and received his M.D. He returned to South Carolina and became a planter in Santee rather than practicing medicine.
