The collection consists of writing by Hector Alliot; obituaries and biographical articles about Hector; article and notes about Laurena Alliot's father, Eli Moore; and personal papers including correspondence with Charles Lummis; newspaper clippings, ephemera. Also includes scrapbooks consisting of newspaper clippings, correspondence, and journal issues that cover a broad range of topics such as, Los Angeles history, Arizona history, archaeology, the Ruskin Art Club, and Southwest Museum history. Hector Alliot, 1862-1919. was the revered first curator and sometime Director of the Southwest Museum from . Wife: Laurena died May 4, 1955. Charles Lummis named him curator in 1901 of the collection of the Southwest Society of the Archaeological Institute, which became the Southwest Museum in 1912. Alliot was also involved with the Ruskin Art Club of San Francisco. After the San Francisco earthquake in 1906 he moved to Los Angeles and became the first professor of Art History at USC. ...

Charles F. Lummis (1859-1928) was born in Lynn, Massachusettts. He became an editor for the Los Angeles Times on February 1, 1884, working for Harrison Gray Otis. He promoted interest in the American Southwest with his photography and articles. Lummis helped found the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles and the School of American Research in Santa Fe.
