Eliza Lyon Palmer diary, 1827.

ArchivalResource

Eliza Lyon Palmer diary, 1827.

Eliza Lyon Palmer's religious diary expresses concern for her future state. She reflects on sermons and on her daily religious activities. The record centers on Eliza's dissatisfaction with her spiritual condition, centering on an uncertainty of her relationship with God both in this life and for the life to come. Such records are invaluable in conveying a clear picture of the setting in which the Book of Mormon came forth and the spiritual cravings of the people in that setting. Written in the southern part of Cayuga County, about 45 miles southeast of Palmyra and 25 miles from where the Book of Mormon was partly translated in Fayette, near "T. Town," East Genoa and Groton, New York.
