Printed broadside to "friends of Erskine College" and others, in which Grier defends his views on slavery after Grier's slave, George, was heard preaching in favor of abolition while hired out as a carpenter. Broadside published during S.C.'s first secession crisis; includes correspondence, transcripts from George's trial, and excerpts from the newspaper, Abbeville Banner, 27 July-Sept. 1850; other men involved in the controversy include Lemuel Reid, William Barr, James Fair, and J. Foster Marshall.
