Papers consist of accounts, a diary, plantation journals, notes, sketchbooks, photographs, memorabilia, and other items. A bound volume contains accounts (1837-1838), probably those of merchant John Stoney (1780-1838), for shipping, freight, wharfage, and commissions. The same volume contains a plantation journal ("day book" for 1852-1853) recording the daily activities of slaves at Medway Plantation including sawing boards, cleaving ditches, digging potatoes, and rice planting; journal includes lists of tools given out to slaves, and an "account of bricks shipped." Other financial records include plantation accounts (1872) for Medway Plantation including cash accounts for plantation supplies, wages of workers and other expenses, a "Monthly Time Roll" noting days worked and wages paid out, and accounts with individual workers; these are recorded in a printed form book "The Rural Accountant," which also includes a journal (1872) concerning ploughing and planting activities, weather conditions, canal work, family affairs, hunting, and other matters. Photographs (1880's to the 1930's) depict locations in and around Charleston (S.C.) including the old Citadel, Fort Moultrie, and Magnolia Cemetery, as well as scenes elsewhere in South Carolina and North Carolina; Stoney family pictures include photographs of Samuel G. Stoney, Jr. and Sr., and and photos of A.T.S. Stoney during World War I, World War II, and as a student at Mayberry's School. Included are many glass negatives. Sketchbooks and notebooks contain drawings of houses, landscapes, and other subjects chiefly in Scotland but also California and elsewhere. Other artwork includes pastels of landscapes and the "Cruet Stand," a house on Sullivan's Island (S.C.). Memorabilia includes invitations, calling cards, dance cards, a medal, programs, and a Christmas card. A bound volume contains records (1875-1914) of the "Goslings" (renamed the Oaks Hunting Club) including hunting rules, constitutions, and a club journal describing hunts at Medway Plantation; notes on silk culture (1882); records (1902-1919) of the Back River Hunting Club including club rules and a journal; and guest registers for Medway Plantation. Other items include a diary (1903) of Samuel G. Stoney, Sr. mainly concerning affairs of the West Point Rice Mill Co.; a volume (1815-1818) of medical, scientific, and legal notes of Russell P. McCord (uncle of Louisa McCord Smythe); a blueprint (1909) of Ararat Plantation; papers and memorabilia pertaining to the Charleston Light Dragoons; a sermon; and a diploma of Ichabod Burnet (1775).
