This collection contains audiovisual materials produced by the BYU Motion Picture Studio. The collection contains materials concerning recruiting, library research, academic colleges and departments, business, KBYU and the press, BYU administration, history, and social and student life. The collection also includes master tapes, production records, song directories and use-copy DVDs for the collection, from 1971 to 1999.

Plans for the David O. McKay building began in 1952 after an evaluation by the Brigham Young University College of Education concluded that the existing building for the College of Education were no longer meeting the growing needs of the program. Plans were officially announced in February of 1954 with the completion deadline being set for December of the same year.
