Evan Samuel Morgan records his family life events information. He then gives a brief autobiography, in which he writes about mining coal in Wales, joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1851 and, in 1854, preaching the gospel in the Welsh mission (under President Dan Jones). The journal entries span November 5, 1854, to August 1891 (for a time Morgan ran out of ink and had to write from memory). Evan Morgan preaches the gospel until 1857, when he immigrates to Utah. He works on farms and receives wheat and potatoes as pay. He shares the story behind the name of the town Vernon, Utah. He hears about gold in Denver in 1859 and goes there with three other men. He marries Mary Parry, who dies just after childbirth on February 7, 1863. He marries Margaret Roberts on May 1, 1863, and moves his family to Bear Lake, Idaho, where he grows crops. He builds railroad ties to support himself during a poor crop year. He goes on a mission to England from 1889-1891. The journal ends as he comes home from this mission.

Evan Samuel Morgan was born November 29, 1833 to William and Sarah Davies Morgan in Cadoxton, Glamorganshire, Wales. His wives were Mary Parry (1840-1863, married 1861) and Margaret Roberts (1841-1918, married 1863). Mary died shortly after the birth of her first son (who also died). Margaret gave Morgan six children, John Samuel, Hannah, William Roberts, Hugh Evan, David Roberts and Sarah Jane. Evan Samuel Morgan passed away on May 25, 1913 in Liberty, Bear Lake County, Idaho.
