Sheffield describes and catalogs the many various forms of folklore as they appear within the ranchos people in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato. Her collection includes nearly every form of rancho folklore, including ballads and folksongs, legends, riddles, superstitions, folk medicines, food ways, folk crafts, folk architecture, and pictures and diagrams to help visualize each aspect of rancho folklore.

Sheffield was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1978 but soon moved to Sutherlin, Oregon, where she was raised. Sheffield was forced to become very responsible early in life, with her father dying of cancer when she was 15 years old.
