Letters, portrait, receipt, and a newspaper clipping, 1891.

Two handwritten and signed letters. Arnold writes an undated letter to "dear Sir" in care of Andrew Carnegie. Arnold explains the prospects of writing about Japan. Also included is a handwritten and unsigned letter dated 17 March 1891 thanking Mr. Hutchinson for his kindness. With these materials are an engraven portriat of Arnold, a newspaper clipping stating that the author may settle in Japan, and a printed and handwritten receipt stating that Arnold had received $500 from "Cosmopolitan" magazine.
