Born in Alberseweiler, Bavaria, Germany, son of John Henry Naegle and Ottalia Wissing. Immigration to America; conversion to Mormonism in Nauvoo, Illinois; work in the Nauvoo Temple; exodus west; member of the Mormon Battalion; present at Sutter's Mill during the discovery of gold; settlement in San Jose Valley, California; marriage to Mary Louisa Kepple; arrival in Salt Lake Valley, 1853; settlement in Saratoga, Utah near Lehi; return to California; friendship with George Q. Cannon; financial assistance in the printing of the Book of Mormon in Hawaiian; participation in the Johnston army episode and Black Hawk War; move to Beaver, Utah; removal to Toquerville, Utah, where he was employed making wine; move to Mexico, 1889.
