Conversion to Mormonism; president of the branch of the LDS Church in his home area; move to Nauvoo, Illinois; experience as a boarder with Joseph Smith; ordination as a seventy in the LDS Church; assistance reburying Joseph and Hyrum Smith after they were removed from their first burial place; labor on the Nauvoo Temple as a tinner; exodus west, 1846; death of his wife Maria Teresa Bonney at Garden Grove, 1846; marriage to Jane Amanda Stevens; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley; settlement in Parowan, Utah, 1880; call to Hawaii on a mission; death of his second wife; marriage to Mary Scott; move to St. George, Utah, then to Kanab, Utah; death of his third wife; marriage to Emily Lewis.

Letter written by Hyrum Smith and signed for Joseph Smith from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Oliver Granger. Smith writes of a Mr. Devenport from New York who brought a judgement in favor of Boynton & Hyde, and urges Granger to pay the "just" debt. He also writes of the deaths of D.C. Smith and Robert B. Thompson from "quick consumption", mentions Brother Phelps and Hiram Kimball, and describes drought conditions.
