Born in New York City, son of Addison Everett and Eliza Ann Elting. Baptism into the LDS Church; boat trip to Nauvoo, Illinois; participation in a company of boys, with Joseph Smith, III, as first lieutenant; burning of the Nauvoo Expositor printing press and building; preparation of Joseph and Hyrum Smith's bodies for burial; exodus west with the Jedediah M. Grant company; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, 1847; contact with Johnston's Army at Fort Kearney, Nebraska; assistance in the las handcart company, 1857; work as coachman for Governor Cummings; involvement in the Morrisite War, 1862; marriage to Rachel Sanders, 1861; call to St. George, Utah, 1862; labor on the St. George Temple, and later ordinance work.
