Born near Centerville Canyon, Davis County, Utah, son of James Jepson and Eleanor Nightengale. Family data; conversion to Mormonism of his grandmother and her excommunication from the LDS Church for dancing in a public place; father's conversion to Mormonism, and subsequent missionary labors near Bolten, England, including a fist fight with two sectarian ministers at a church meeting; conversion to Mormonism of his mother and her marriage to James Jepson, Sr.; their immigration to New Orleans, 1842, and relocation in Nauvoo, Illinois, the following year; incident with Porter Rockwell at the home of Joseph Smith; special assignment givien to James Jepson, Sr. to stay in St. Louis, Missouri to aid the English saints immigrating to America; exodus west; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley and settlement at the mouth of Centerville Canyon, Davis County, Utah; removal to Mill Creek, Utah; birth of James Jepson, Jr., 1854; call of the family to southern Utah, and settlement at Virgin, Utah, 1862; Indian troubles, 1866; experiences of James Jepson, Jr., as a youth in Virgin; organization of the United Order in Virgin, 1874; marriage to Lucinda Stratton, 1876; call as first counselor to Bishop John Parker; organization of the Hurricane Canal Project and Company, 1893; death of Lucinda, 1894; work as school trustee of Virgin for twenty years; marriage to Grace Wright Gibson, 1902; election as County Commissioner for two years, and service as justice of the peace; call to serve as bishop of the Hurrican Ward; trip to Salt Lake City to enlist financial support for the Hurricane Canal Project; removal to Hurricane, Utah, 1910; election as president of the Town Board, 1912; call to serve as a high councilman of the Zion Stake, 1929; death, 1950.
