Born in Lexington, Kentucky, son of Isaac Turnbow and Margaret Tallkitten. Father's teachings regarding the need of a restored church, and his prediction that his son, Samuel, would eventually affiliate with the restoration movement; his own religious experiences before his conversion to Mormonism, 1840; mission to Mississippi, 1844; exodus west; farewell party of Mormon Battalion at Council Bluffs, Iowa; journey to Missouri for provisions; journey across the plains in the A.O. Smoot Company; mission to Las Vegas, 1856; spiritual manifestations.
