Born in Bristol Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, son of Thomas Sirls Terry and Mary Ann Markins. Family genealogy; early life; affiliation with the Mormons in 1842 while in Pennsylvania; introduction of the doctrine of polygamy into his branch in 1843 through Joseph Newton, who had learned it from Brigham Young; work at his trade as a printer until 1845; endeavors to raise money through various jobs to gather with the Mormons; exodus west from Pennsylvania by way of the Ohio River and St. Louis, Missouri; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, 1847; re-baptism that winter; ordination as priest by Bishop Edward Hunter and Joseph Starpten; survival the first winter; marriage to Mary Ann Pulsipher, 1849; settlement in Union Fort; counsel to his children; a letter from his father Thomas Sirls Terry, Sr., and one from his sister Ann Terry; war declared by Chief Walker; preparations for a fort, and peaceful settlement of the war; called on a mission to Philadelphia; crossing the plains again in charge of a company of Saints; miraculous blessing and revival of Lucy Stevenson; many blessings and miraculous healings from injuries received as a result of a stampede; second wife Elize Jane Pulsipher, 1855; sealed to Lucy Stevenson as a third wife, 1857, and troubles following; call to the Dixie Mission, 1862; call to settle Shoal Creek, Utah, 1863; building of a ranch in Moroni Springs, Utah; removal to Hebron, Utah, 1874; call to preside over the Hebron Ward of the LDS Church, 1876-1894; marriage to Hannah Louisa Leavitt, 1878; move to Beaver Dams Wash, Washington County, Utah, 1885; narrow escape during anti-polygamy raids; ordination as patriarch by President Francis M. Lyman, 1908; death, 1920.
