Born in Albion, Home District, Upper Canada, son of Parshall and Hannah Terry. Early life; continually moving with his parents and other Latter-day Saints; persecution of mobocrats in Missouri; healings performed by Joseph Smith in Nauvoo Illinois; activities in Nauvoo; member of the Nauvoo Legion, 1841; exodus west; arrival in Salt Lake Valley, 1847; setlement in Willow Creek, (now Draper) Utah; marriage to a widow he met on the plains; separation from his wife, and journey to Fort Bridger on foot by himself; his acquaintance with Jim Bridger; episode as a prisoner of the Indians and his Indian wife; establishment of a system of ferry boats on the Green River; marriage to his second Indian wife, Ann Greaswood, 1851; her death in 1857; marriage to Mary Emma Reid, 1857; reputation for excellent eyesight and markmanship among the Indians; experiences as a scout with Porter Rockwell under Lot Smith during the Johnston Army episode; background of his wife Mary Emma Reid, and her church callings; service as trustee of Draper schools and justice of the peace; set apart to preside over the Shoshone Mission by President Taylor, 1881; set apart as patriarch by Elder John Henry Smith, 1901.
