Born in Palmyra, Ontario County, New York, daughter of Parshall and Hannah Terry. Early life; family's move to Upper Canada in 1818; conversion there to the Baptist church in 1830; marriage to Francis Kirby in 1833; introduction to Mormonism in 1837; baptism in 1838 after vioent protests from her husband; journey to Nauvoo, Illinois, to visit her parents and receive counsel from Church authorities about her husband; advice from Hyrum Smith to return to her family; her compliance and return only to discover his death and burial; return to Nauvoo; remarriage in 1843; poverty and sickness; proxy baptism for her deceased husband and others; exodus west; arrival in Council Bluff, Iowa, 1846; arrival in Winter Quarters, Nebraska, 1846; journey across the plains; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, 849; hardships the first winter there; initiation of a small shool for children, 1849; move to Draperville, Utah, 1855; removal to Mountainville, Utah, 1858; death, 1878.
