Handwritten diaries for the years 1886-1888, 1899-1901, and 1901-1909. Also included are typescripts, microfilm, and scanned copies of these items. Also with the collection are typescripts of Samuel Bateman's correspondence for the years 1868-1886 and a typewritten biography of Bateman by James A. Oliver. Bateman writes about being on the "Underground," dodging federal officials pursuing him for polygamy, guarding John Taylor, his friendship with Wilford Woodruff, and other personal and family matters.
