Willard Gardner was born on December 22, 1925 in Logan, Utah. He received his Bachelor's degree in Physics from Utah State Agricultural College and received his Masters in Mathematics from Brigham Young University in 1956. He became Assistant Director of Computing Services at BYU in 1972. He was later named Director of Computing Services in 1980.
