Session books, 1857-1903.

Session books contain pupil lists and officers for each academic session. Pupil entries include name; arrival date; post office address; county of residence; correspondent's name; remarks on graduation and discharge. Later volumes sometimes include departure date and admission number. School officers entries (1857-1871) include name; job title; appointment and resignation dates.

The Illinois Asylum for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb was established (1839) at Jacksonville to admit all educable "deaf and dumb" individuals without charge.
