Research files on statewide historic sites and monuments were variously prepared by state university departments; historical societies; foundations; and Department of Conservation staff. Files include historical background reports on site locations, buildings, furnishings, and artifacts; biographical reports; oral interview transcripts; cultural research and structural investigation reports prepared for restoration purposes; interpretive reports; special analytical reports on historical issues (e.g., women's lives; tourism; estray record keeping); demographic reports; county record indices; and related correspondence.

The Department of Conservation (created 1925) succeeded the Dept. of Agriculture's Division of Fish and Game in administering state fish and game codes.
