Collection contains original letters, including one from "Cordaroy" and refers to a presidential order extending the length of service of Union regiments from three months to two years. Another letter, from Corporal Joseph Adams, describes the capture of Corinth, Miss. Another correspondent, Sgt. Johnson McDowell, expresses optimism about the war's outcome, and another item appoints Morgan as correspondent of the Bureau of Military Statistics. Morgan was a patron of education and received correspondence from Nelson M. Holbrook concerning school book publications. Other letters from Salem Town to Congressmen Barber express political opinions and touch on other topics such as the Kansas question, John Brown's Raid, the 1860 election, and a group of Northen sharpshooters.
