A.B. Cordley entomological and horticultural scrapbook, 1896-1899.

The A.B. Cordley Entomological and Horticultural Scrapbook consists of clippings assembled by Cordley pertaining to fruit and crop pests and diseases and their control. Many of the clippings are from the Oregon Agriculturist and Rural Northwest; the scrapbook also includes clippings from the Michigan Farmer and Oregon newspapers. The clippings include reports from farmers throughout the state, summaries and announcements of Cordley's work, information about Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station research, and announcements and reports of meetings of the Oregon State Horticultural Society. The clippings are affixed into a hardbound 1889 Report of the Connecticut Board of Agriculture and Experiment Stations.

A.B. Cordley joined the faculty of Oregon Agricultural College in 1895 as Professor of Zoology and Entomology. He became the first Dean of the School of Agriculture in 1908, a position he held until his retirement in 1931. Cordley worked as an entomologist at Michigan Agricultural College, the Vermont Experiment Station, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture before moving to Oregon. The Oregon State Horticultural Society was formed in 1885 and incorporated in 1909 as an educational organization working for the advancement of horticulture. The staff of the Horticulture Department at OSU were closely associated with the society from its beginnings. The society's secretary was traditionally the extension horticulturalist.
