Papers, 1900-1995.

This collection is arranged by media, then by family association or topic, and then by chronology. The collection consists primarily of materials from Gunderson's "The Road I Grew Up On" project documenting social change in Iowa. Included are app. 15 8 mm films, 40 audiotapes, 100 videotapes, 150 sheets of photographic negatives, 100 prints, 50 sheets of slides, 5 scrapbooks, and 6 land record books. The Biographical series contains material related to the Gunderson family, as well as correspondence, manuscripts, and printed materials. The audiotapes consists of oral histories of the Gunderson family and individuals who lived in the area. The videotapes include material transferred from film, oral histories, and footage of events. The photographic material includes copy negatives and prints from photographs (1900-1995), but is largely the original work of Gunderson (1970-1995).

Independent photographer, video producer, and regional historian. Helen DeElda Gunderson was born in Black Hawk County, Iowa, and reared in Pocahontas County, Iowa. She received a B.S. (1967) from Iowa State University, an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Stout; and a Master of Divinity degree from the San Francisco Theological Seminary.
