Collection consists of correspondence and related materials compiled by George Lawrence Hunter, commissioner of revenue for the city of Fredericksburg, Va., concerning his activities as a member of and local leader in the Virginia Democratic Party. Correspondents include Harry Flood Byrd (1887-1966) and Harry Flood Byrd (b. 1914), primarily concerning their campaigns for election and re-election to the United State Senate, and Congressman Howard W. Smith of Virginia. Some correspondence concerns the presidential election of 1960 and Virginia Democrats' response to the candidacy of John F. Kennedy.
