Record of anti-trust affidavits and annual reports submitted by foreign corporations, 1897-1917.

Entries for each foreign corporation (i.e., organized under the laws of another state) include name and home address of corporation; annual dates of delivery and receipt of anti-trust affidavits by Anti-Trust Division; and occasional remarks on termination, dissolution, or change of name of corporation. For 1908-1916 entries also include incorporation charter number assigned by Illinois, name of agent representing corporation, address of Illinois office, name of state in which incorporated, duration of charter assigned to corporation, and annual dates of delivery and receipt of annual reports by the Anti-Trust Division.

In 1891 an act was passed by the General Assembly prohibiting the formation of trusts but no specific duties were assigned to the Secretary of State until the law was amended in 1893 (L. 1891, p. 206; L. 1893, p. 89). The Secretary then was instructed to require every corporation doing business in the state to file an annual affidavit affirming that it was not a member of or party to any pool, trust, or combination in restraint of trade.
