Alexander Garden papers, 1758-1767.

Papers consist of Alexander Garden's letters to Richard Bohun Baker (1736-1783) and medical accounts (1758-1763) of the Baker family. Letters (1759-1767, some undated) to Richard Bohun Baker discuss the medical care of Baker family members and slaves, the seeds of trees and shrubs, medicinal uses of bark, and other subjects. In addition to the originals, there are handwritten typescriptions of Garden's letters and photocopies.

Owner of Archdale Hall, a plantation in Dorchester County (S.C.) which had previously been owned by his grandfather William Baker (d. 1718) and great-grandfather Richard Baker (d. 1698). Richard Bohun Baker (1736-1783) was the son of Richard Baker (d. 1752) and Mary Bohun (daughter of Nicholas Bohun).
