Papers consist of correspondence, estate and property records, legal documents, financial records, slave records, and other items. Included are the papers of William Wragg Smith (1808-1875) and a plantation journal of William Wragg (1714-1777). Papers of William Wragg (d. 1803) include letters (1786-1803) to his mother Henrietta Wragg in Charleston (S.C.) from merchant and banker George Curling in London (England), and letters between William Wragg and Curling, mainly concerning Wragg family financial and business affairs. Correspondence after 1803 chiefly concerns the management and settlement of William Wragg's estate. There are also invoices, accounts of Henrietta Wragg with George Curling, and estate accounts and other estate papers of William Wragg. Legal documents and property records consist of bonds, mortgages, leases, land grants, slave mortgages, plats, conveyances, indentures, wills, and other documents. Included are bonds (1738-1740) of Alexander Skene and John Skene; a mortgage (1722) of a plantation in Berkeley County (S.C.); a lease of land in Berkeley County by Alexander Skene and John Skene to William Cattell; a conveyance of land in Berkeley County from John Carruthers to William Cattell; a memorandum concerning two slaves of John Skene mortgaged to Joseph Wragg of Charleston (S.C.); and the wills of Henrietta Wragg, Charlotte Wragg Smith, Henrietta Wragg Pogson, Elizabeth Wragg, and other family members. Financial records include receipts, business accounts, and accounts pertaining to land holdings. Other items include instructions (1749) to Captain George Curling and others for obtaining an acknowledgment of assignment of Mrs. Mary Wragg's estate in Gloucester County (England); an account book (1798) of William Wragg (d. 1803); and estate papers of John Wragg, including receipts, accounts, a list of bonds, and a copy of an appraisal and inventory of his personal property at [Dockon] plantation.

Family of England and South Carolina. William Wragg, a South Carolina born attorney, legislator, and plantation owner, practiced law in England but returned to South Carolina circa 1750. Wragg's first wife was Mary Wood (d. 1767). He married second his cousin Henrietta Wragg (1737-1802), and their children were William Wragg (d. 1803), Henrietta Wragg (who married Rev. Alexander Skene was Treasurer of the City of Edinburgh and Dean of the Guild of Aberdeen when he and his wife, Lilias, were convinced as Quakers in 1669. In 1672, Aberdeen Monthly Meeting resolved to record a general history of the Society of Friends in Scotland.
