ArchivalResource

Bering Sea Expedition, 1968 [motion picture].

The accession consists of a one reel color film labelled, "Alpha Helix Bering Sea Expedition 1968," and "Alpha Helix Bering Sea Phase A - Ship through Ice, Mekoyuk, Kitoi Bay, Print." The leader is labelled, "Alpha Helix Phase A (Selected Scenes), Departure S.D., Ship through Ice (Seals), Mekoryuk, Kitoi. Note - Some Original, Some Color Print." The research vessel Alpha Helix was operated as a floating biological laboratory by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography from 1966-1980. While the film was clearly labelled on the top of the can as Alpha Helix Bering Sea Expedition 1968, references to Phase A and to seals suggest that it may be film of Alpha Helix Bering Expedition 1972 which studied seals.

1 reel (800 ft) : col. ; 16 mm. print.
