Papers, 1891-1975.

Collection consists of correspondence and personal papers that record almost fifty years of pioneer mission work in Brazil. The papers include material in three languages: English, Portuguese, and Swedish. Included in the papers are: biographical information, diaries, sermon notes, travel notes, certificates, financial records, photographs, periodicals, and unpublished manuscripts. Significant correspondents include: William Buck Bagby, L.M. Bratcher, William Entzminger, Solomon L. Ginsburg, W.T. Taylor, R.J. Willingham, and Z.C. Taylor. Papers have family correspondence as well.

Southern Baptist missionary to Brazil, 1882-1919. Laura G. Barton was a missionary to China, 1889-94, then went to Brazil in 1895, following her marriage to Taylor. Taylor was the first pastor of the First Baptist Church, Bahia, Brazil. The Taylors and one of their daughters were killed in a hurricane in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1919.
