The largest body of materials in this collection consists of the speeches, conference notes, and publications created by Grace M. Henderson before and after her retirement from Penn State. Also, includes materials relating to her employment at Cornell University, 1933-1944, the University of Arkansas, 1945-1947, personal and professional correspondence, and a scrapbook of her activities. Also, includes papers documenting her involvement with various professional societies and fraternities (Omicron Nu, American Home Economics Association, National Home Economics Association, Pennsylvania Home Economics Association, and others).

The Pennsylvania Humanities Council designated the year 1985 as "The Year of the Pennsylvania Writer." The PHC funded projects in eight locations throughout the Commonwealth to gain appreciation, understanding, and recognition for past and present Pennsylvania writers. The State College/University Park location held a two-stage conference and related events by five Centre County regional organizations. Dr. Grace Mildred Henderson was born in Superior, Nebraska on December 11, 1901. She was a graduate of the University of Nebraska. She received her M.S. degree at the University of Chicago and her Ph.D. degree at Ohio State University. Before coming to Penn State, she served for two years as head of the home economics department of the University of Arkansas.
