Watson family collection, 1913-1991.

The Watson Family Collection includes: teaching material (student papers, grade reports, educational publications), diplomas, account books, financial records, college commencement programs, music programs, grade school lesson books, greeting cards, postcards, photographic prints and negatives, and memorabilia spanning the years 1913-1991, with the bulk falling within the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Much of the collection documents Jean Watson's life and work at Spaulding High School. Student papers and published teaching aids give some insight about her teaching style and experiences at Spaulding. This is particularly the case for her work with the American Field Service (AFS), which is documented by student evaluations, letters, and grade reports dating from 1964 to 1969. There is material recording her involvement as secretary of the American Association of University Women, 1974-1977. As a staff member for Spaulding's Our Echo year book, Jean photographed graduations, sports teams, clubs, and other activities throughout the 1960s and 1970s. There are a few portraits of Jean as well: one black and white print from 1944 and three strips of 35mm negatives taken while she was on the Echo staff. Jean also meticulously logged her purchases in several small notebooks beginning in May, 1980 through November, 1982. College financial records, commencement programs, assignments, grade reports, lesson books, and memorabilia document both Frances' and Lois' educational experiences from grade school through college. Unfortunately, there are no photographs of Frances, but there are several group photos of Lois during her high school years, 1945-1946. Other portraits include Norman Watson as a child. Other ephemera associated with the Watson family include several college commencement programs (organized by college), student and alumni newspapers, greeting cards, and music programs. Of interest among the Watson family miscellaneous photographs is a print of Spaulding High School taken before the Robert Burns statue was put in place (ca. 1890s), and a print of Goddard Seminary taken in the late 19th century.
