Roy Fuller letters and poems, 1941-1942, n.d.

On 26 December 1941, Fuller encloses a poem, "Royal Naval Air Station," and on 23 March 1942 encloses "Sonnet" and "Poem" in letters to Lehmann; in both letters he complains of the difficulty of writing in the barracks during World War II. The collection also contains five poems (four typescript and one holograph), all signed: "Goodbye for a long time," "Hedge-sparrows and house-sparrows," "Jowett's notebook," "Still at large," and "Variations."

Roy (Broadbent) Fuller (1912-1991), the poet, was born in Failsworth, Lancashire, educated at Blackpool High School, and later qualified as a solicitor. He joined the Woolwich Equitable Building Society in 1938 and became one of its directors in 1969. He was legal adviser to and vice-president of the Building Societies Association, and at one time a governor of the BBC.
