Helen Alder Papers, 1906-1906.

Helen Alder (HA), of Lawrence, Kansas and a graduate of Kansas University, was enrolled in the Simmons College School of Household Economics Graduate Certificate Course ca. 1906. The collection contains one letter written by HA to her mother and father while at Simmons and documents an off-campus student teaching assignment at the South End Boston Settlement House (most likely the South End House) and an off-campus social activity. The letter also offers a student's perspective on Dean Sarah Louise Arnold's enforcement of college regulations and on the issues of student liberty and chaperones in the early twentieth century.
