The Daughters of Union Veterans (DUV) - Tent 79 was founded in April, 1948, with sixteen charter members. They provided medical books for hospitals and wheelchairs and other medical supplies for Union veterans of the Civil War and their families. The DUV also awarded scholarships for descendants of Union veterans and provided flags for schools and civic organizations. A primary goal of having Highway 6 renamed "The Grand Army of the Republic Highway" was accomplished in 1953. From th...
