Typescript of Samuel Cosmo (Catawba) Lowry's diary with accounts of campaigns in lowcountry South Carolina; Wilmington, N.C.; second battle of Manassas, and Petersburg, Va.; also includes descriptions of music provided by Negro slaves, hunting, fishing, and other diversions of camp life; troop movements throughout the lowcountry, including Wadmalaw and John's Island; return to South Carolina to recover from injury; enrollment at Arsenal Academy in Columbia, S.C., in 1863; and return to Confederate service in 1864. Collection also includes roll of Lowry's company, ca. 7 May 1864; poetry; and literary compostitions, including essays, "The Right of the South to Secede from the North"; "Are We Rebels?"; and "Eulogy on Gen. Stonewall Jackson, S.C.V." Diary transcribed by Sumter Leon Lowry.
