Jesse Colton Lynes papers, 1891 June 15-July 8.

Letters, 15 June and 4 and 8 July 1891, Middle Georgia Military and Agricultural College, Milledgeville, Ga., to Isaac Means, Sec., Board of Trustees, University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C., re his interest in the chair of geology and mineralogy, remarking that the branch colleges in Georgia were political victims of the university and the legislature. Lynes adds that he was a Confederate veteran and wished to return to his native state, inquires re scientific equipment and library holdings, and laments earlier lack of appreciation among natives for educational accomplishments of fellow South Carolinians.
