Correspondence of Lowndes in his official capacity on legislative committees and as President of South Carolina. Correspondence includes 9 July 1773, Charleston, S.C., to Peyton Randolph of Virginia, re appointment of committees of correspondence and acknowledging receipt of a list of recommended resolutions by the Virginia House of Burgesses to the S.C. House; letter, 18 June 1778, Charleston, S.C., to Capt. John Bowie, re case against John Martin for deserting his post and allowing prisoners to escape, granting pardon of offense, but instructing that Bowie "call to severe acc[oun]t" any of his men guilty of desertion in the future. Other items include 13 July 1778 order and receipt for money paid John Lewis Gervais; description, ca. 1959, of letter 18 July 1778, to Benjamin Franklin, commissioning Alexander Gillon to procure ships of war in Europe for South Carolina; and letter, 30 Jan. 1779, to Gen.
