Charles Artemas Kent was born in Hopkinton, New York, Oct. 11, 1835, the son of Artemas and Sarah (Weed) Kent. He received a A.B. from the University of Vermont in 1856 and studied at Andover Theological Seminary, 1857-1859. Kent was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1960 began practicing law in Detroit. Charles Irish Walker was born April 25, 1814 in New York (State). Educated in common school, he started life as a teacher, clerk, and merchant. He moved to Grand Rapids (Mich.) to buy land in 1836.
