Son of Nathaniel and Samantha Brush, born at Bennington, Vt., May 10, ca. 1772; graduated at Dartmouth; settled in Marietta, Ohio. Came to Detroit in 1789; married Adelaida Askin, 1802; elected trustee of Detroit, 1803; treasurer of Mich. Territory, 1806; commanded territorial militia when War of 1812 opened.
