Letters, to Karl Heinzen, 1845-1848.

The letters were written while both Heinzen and Freiligrath were political exiles from German. One letter is addressed to Mrs. Heinzen in Heinzen's absence, and a number are addressed on the address panel to Mlle. Louise Schiller [his wife's maiden name] The final letter is from Mrs. Freiligrath, telling of the poet's arrest and trial for publication of a poem, Die Todten und die Lebendigen. The letters transmit funds raised by W. von Eichthal, speak of Freiligrath's writings, his political views, his contacts with mutual friends, and the difficulties of living as a refugee, and offer advice to Heinzen for travelling and taking up residence in America.
