Shakespeare papers, 1882-1917.

Chiefly comprises correspondence on all aspects of Shakespearean study, including building the University of Michigan Shakespeare Collection, particularly the purchase by McMillan of the Thomson and Crosby collections, and arranging for Shakespearean and other lectures and performances, many by touring companies. A few letters are addressed to University of Michigan President Angell and various faculty members and library personnel.

William Shakespeare was likely born April, 23, 1564; he was baptized in Stratford-upon-Avon on April 26, 1564. He grew up, had a family, and bought property in Stratford while working in London, the center of English theater.
