Collection includes letters (some copies or transcriptions), 1927-1928, written to Joseph Leonard Jarman concerning the twenty-fifth anniversary of his inauguration as president of the Virginia State Teachers College at Farmville (now Longwood College); letters, 1944-1945, presented to Jarman at a dinner to honor the fifty-second anniversary of his tenure as president of the institution; letters endorsing Jarman for the presidency of the Virginia State Teachers College at Farmville; and miscellaneous materials, 1901-1931, concerning his college presidency. Some letters were written by Harry F. Byrd.

Theodore Roosevelt Dalton was born 3 July 1901 in Carroll County, Virginia, the son of Currell and Lodoska Maritn Dalton. he received his B.A. from the College of William and Mary as well as his law degree. Dalton was Commonwealth's Attorney for Radford, Virginia and state senator from 1944-1960. He was the Republican Party candidate for governor in 1953 and 1957.
