Chiefly the papers of Rebecca (Yancey) Williams, including a manuscript of her book, The Vanishing Virginian (1940), a biographical story of her father, Lynchburg, Va., lawyer, Robert Davis Yancey (1855- 1931), and correspondence, 1939-1942, documenting the process of making a movie based on it, including an exchange of letters between Williams and producer Edwin Harris Knopf (1899-1987), as well as scripts, contracts, photographs, publicity releases, and an architectural drawing of Yancey's house in Lynchburg. There are also manuscripts for Carry Me Back (1942) and various essays on biographical or political and historical subjects. Williams' diaries, 1942 and 1944, record her activities during World War II, and correspondence and other materials reflect the activities of the Jamestowne Society during Williams' tenure as historian. Papers of Dr. John Bell Williams include correspondence, 1932- 1966, chiefly concerning the Medical College of Virginia and dentistry; essays, speeches, and notes, 1922-1968, including a speech on Margaret Nolting (1883-1966), first woman graduate of the Medical College of Virginia; and programs and speeches, 1948-1967, concerning commencement exercises at St. Luke's Hospital Training School for Nurses, Richmond.
