Charter for the National Association of Machinists, Lodge no. 158 for the Ute Pass, located in Colorado City, Colo., dated 1891. Names on the charter include: Robert Hagerty, J.A. Currently known as the International Association of Machinists (IAM), the organization was formed by 19 machinists who meet in a locomotive pit in Atlanta, Ga. in 1888. The men called themselves "The Order of United Machinist and Mechanical Engineers." Even though the organization remained secret due to employer hostility, within a year 40 locals had been formed.
