Plaque ceremony, January 22, 1978 [sound recording].

The collection consists of one 60-minute audio cassette tape recording of a ceremony unveiling a plaque at the George H. Scripps Memorial Marine Biological Laboratory identifying it as the first building at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The principal speaker was California State Senator James Mills. The audio recording was made by Elizabeth Noble Shor.

James Mills, Sr., traveled to California in 1883 and lived in Elsinore until the mid-1880s, when he moved to Riverside.
