A native of Mason County, Ky., Dye practiced law in Maysville, Ky. until he moved to Indianapolis in 1861 because of his Unionist sympathies. He practiced law and was an associate editor for the INDIANAPOLIS JOURNAL. Dye supported and legally fought for African American civil rights throughout his life.
